AfterStep with DFM (Winbloze clone sort of) AfterStep1.5 look

My computer section of my homepage. You can download some stuff, see what programs I use, take a look at some screenshots of my X desktop. Main things covered here:

Yes, I hate M$ products, and here's why:

  1. Poor software - Their poor excuse for an "OS" (mind you I will refer to it as a GUI) Windoze, is bug ridden, has poor memory management, doesn't multi-task properly and not to mention who knows what information gets sent to MSN's computer every time you are on the `net using Windoze.
  2. Promotes bloatware - Not only is Windoze bloated, thus getting the nickname Winbloat$ from me... but practically everything written for it is bloated! Don't ask me why, but most Winbloat$ programs are bloated! Perhaps because nothing's open source, so programmers have to write their own libraries for their programs, which must be included with the program... thus making it bigger than your usual software? Take for example the popular ICQ clients for Win9x and X11. ICQ99 (the latest version) for Winbloat$ is 4Mb compressed! Licq (a very popular ICQ client for X11 is only 200K compressed! ICQ on Winbloat$ is not 20x better, and does not have 20x the functionality of Licq. So why so bloated?
  3. Forcing users - Walk into a computer shop, and what will you see? Windoze, windoze, windoze. Ask the people there if any other platforms are available if you buy a system, and if you will get support from them after making a purchase of a computer with a different OS on it. You will likely find you will get no support, let alone an alternative choice to the bloated money grabbing M$ Windoze. Apparently this is "not forcing" because the people in the shop "are smart" and "they know what the customer wants". Well they aren't smart enough for me! Because I don't want M$ Forceware.
  4. Cost - Ever wondered why Bill Gates is the richest man in the world? No, not because he wrote a good computer program everyone wants... because he charges ridiculous amounts of money for forced, crap, bloated software. I goto any Windoze download place like Tucows or Download.com and what do I see everywhere? $$$! Evaluation! Commercial! Shareware! Sure, programmers want to get some dosh for their labouring over the keyboard, but look at the price of the programs! And they are generally not quite what you want, and are programmed so hard cored that there's no flexibility. Sure, shareware is ok, but annoying messages popping up? "Don't forget to register!"? it's what I call: Annoyware. If I were to write a usable program that was shareware worthy I'd put a small section in the read1st.txt file saying how to pay if you like the program. No annoying crap.
