Pascal Tutorial: (U/C)

I have 2 finished programs: SECURE and DiskInfo. Pop helped me wih both of them since I was only starting out when I made them. SECURE is a small security program that runs on system start-up.

I started an external Email composer for Arachne, which would have support for address books, URL following from messages and even an abusive Email FITB! ;-) This has stopped progressing because my TP IDE has fingered up! You can download my programs from here, they come with EXE, source, units & any required files. If you can improve on the programs, or use the source/ideas in one of your programs then... enjoy!

All of the programs will run under M$-DOS 3.3+, DR-DOS 6+ and DOSEMU 0.98.1 (may work on lower/higher versions. This is all I tested it on)

SECURE is also available from ZDnet's Software Libraries. Now with over 100 hits! Woo hoo! SECURE also comes with an Installation program, which creates required files, configures usernames and password in the CFG file, and even back's up and edits your AUTOEXEC.BAT file after adding it's commands to the start of it. Of course for the more experienced, you can make and edit the needed files by hand as well.

Pop is thinking of taking SECURE one step further and making it a high level security program, by making it reside in the boot sector of the HDD. Similar to something that DESKTOP2 does. How ever this venture is not being followed at the moment.

To download the programs, check the blue bar at the bottom of the page.

As you can see on the left, I've added a Turbo Pascal Tutorial index. The tutorial is originally written by Glenn Grotzinger back in `96. You can also get this tutorial in SWAG but the version here is being converted into HTML format by me. Advantages I see in a HTML version:

  • Click and Go - Just like all the Linux HOWTO's.
  • Using tables, I have made the examples stand out with standard TP7 IDE syntax highlighting.
  • The world has "fancied-up" since text format tutorials. Might as well keep this damn good tutorial up there with the rest!
I am going to convert each chapters on a daily basis, I'm going through the tutorial at the moment. Each day I do a chapter, then convert it to HTML (which only takes about 10 mins). After the conversion is complete, I'll archive them in ARJ, TAR & ZIP formats and have them available here for download. So as I always say, <Elaine Voice>"Enjoy!"</EV>

Latest update(s): Uploaded Chapter 6! Arrays and Extended ASCII character usage. I haven't done this chapter yet, so next upload could be a while. :-(
